Wayne County is nestled in the center of the state right along the Missouri border. We have eight incorporated towns and a population of about 6000 . We love our little towns, our businesses and farmers that all have a "can do" attitude. Here are some of the reasons you'll love it here, too.
Music, Visual, Performing and Writing
Cross Community Bell Choir has been making beautiful music for more than 40 years.
The Walldog Movement began in Allerton in 1993 when about 65 artists from the US and Canada gathered to paint murals. The community welcomed the artists, fed them and hosted them in their homes. This tradition continues today as once a year, artists from around the globe gather in one lucky community to paint historical murals and wall advertisements. The Walldogs, now more than 500 strong, are coming back to Wayne County in 2023 to celebrate their 30 anniversary.
Our wild, wild MIDwest may have begun with this famous bank robbery by the Jesse James Gang in 1871. They robbed the Ocobock Bros. bank in Corydon and on the way out of town, Jesse stopped briefly at the church and interrupted the minister to announce that “some riders” had just robbed the town’s bank. “You folks best get down there in a hurry.”
