We can't wait to host you! Please fill out this form to register for the event.
Note that as of August 1, full registration is closed. If you haven't registered yet but want to paint, please register ASAP. We cannot provide host families to late registrants, but there are still hotels and RV hookups available in the area.
We're painting 16 murals that will be installed across Wayne County, IA (although 14 of the 16 murals will be painted on panels at the Wayne County Fairgrounds to be installed later). Here are the project leads and topics:
We're announcing more about each project lead, theme and historical context, and mural location on our Facebook page and will post that information on the website as well.
* Murals with stars are original 1993 themes that are being updated / repainted during the festival.
We're thrilled to welcome the Walldogs back to where the event first started in 1993! The original Walldogs group painted several murals in the small town of Allerton, Iowa. Those murals have been greatly treasured by the community ever since.
We know the Walldogs have grown tremendously since 1993, and we're honored to bring the Walldogs back to Iowa to celebrate their 30th anniversary. We're also excited to restore some of the Allerton murals, as well as add murals to all of Wayne County's other towns.
If you're driving: set your navigation to the Wayne County Fairgrounds (which is where you'll register). It's at 2nd Ave and Fairgrounds Road, Corydon, IA 50060.
If you're flying: we're 70 miles south of the Des Moines International Airport (DSM), or 150 miles northeast of the Kansas City International Airport (MCI). Des Moines is very easy to fly in/out of, with direct flights to 30+ cities daily.
Note: we'll offer airport pickups at both DSM and MCI, pending volunteer availability.
If you want to camp or bring an RV: we're providing free campsites and RV hookups (until we reach capacity) at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. Campsites are available Wednesday - Sunday night (departing Monday).
If you want to book a hotel or other lodging: we have a list of local hotels, including several lodge options that are great for families or groups who want to stay together. Note that hotels are at your own cost, unless you are a project lead.
We are also providing host families and RVs to Walldogs who registered before August 1 and requested lodging at the time of registration. You will hear from us separately on lodging, but please reach out to waynecountywalldogs@gmail.com if you have questions.
For all visiting Walldogs, the local committee is catering meals throughout the festival. The first meal is Wednesday night dinner; the last meal is Monday breakfast.
We'll provide grab-and-go breakfasts, hot lunches and dinners, and plenty of beverages free of charge.
Most food will be served at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, with arrangements made to deliver meals to mural locations as necessary.
Please mention during registration if you have any dietary restrictions.
There are 16 murals across Wayne County, but the majority will be painted on panels and installed later.
Onsite / on-building painting will happen in Allerton (the Coca-Cola mural on the Olde Time Soda Fountain).
For all other murals, panels will be painted at the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Corydon. This facility has bathrooms, air-conditioned eating areas, and a full kitchen. It's also where we'll be serving Walldogs meals and hosting RVs, so it will be a fun way to see many murals coming together at once!
We are hosting two community events / parties during the festival:
- A welcome kickoff from 7-11pm on Wednesday, August 30. We'll have a DJ, a bounce house, and a variety of treats and drinks available for purchase. We're welcoming the local community to come and celebrate the kickoff of the festival, and we're expecting a lot of excitement for the event!
- A benefit / recognition party on Saturday night, September 2. This gathering will recognize and celebrate the Walldogs and the local volunteers and hosts, as well as serve as the auction of Walldogs mural renderings.
If you're staying at the Fairgrounds campsite, pets are allowed in the campgrounds. Pets aren't allowed in food service areas and in some other locations onsite - we'll share more info about this as the event gets closer.
If you're staying with a local host, we will do our best to match you with someone who can accommodate a pet. Please email waynecountywalldogs@gmail.com if you need a pet-friendly host.
If you're booking your own lodging, please make your arrangements directly with the hotel / site.
Wayne County is a smaller community than many of the Walldogs' recent gatherings - our largest town is 1800 people, and other towns are 500 people or less. Our overall county population is 6500 people. The main economic driver is agriculture, although we also have several factories, an excellent hospital, and a variety of small businesses.
We have grocery stores, gas stations, a Dollar General, locally-owned general stores, and a few great restaurants - but we don't have DoorDash, Uber, any fast food chains, or some of the other amenities that bigger cities can offer.
This is a fantastic place to disconnect and spend a few days making art and meeting new / old friends! Just be prepared that you may not be able to buy certain things as easily as you might in a larger town.
We really don't have Ubers. Or Lyfts, or scooter shares, or any other rideshare app :)
Most of the mural activities will be at the Wayne County Fairgrounds, and we'll have some volunteer transportation around the area. You may want to rent or bring a car if you require more flexibility, or organize to carshare with other Walldogs.
Please email waynecountywalldogs@gmail.com and we'll get back to you shortly!
